Default How to Buy Gold Nuggets

Here is a great article on buying gold nuggets, the purpose of the article is to give new gold nugget buyers at least a basic understanding of buying gold, and enough knowledge to hopefully avoid some of the pitfalls.

How not to get RIPPED OFF buying Gold Nuggets on Ebay

Quote:
First, the price for smaller nuggets 1 to 2 grams usually runs around $18 a gram. Larger Nuggets 3 to 5 grams around $20 per gram. Real Large nuggets 6 to 7, $25 per gram. Really Large nuggets 8 grams up to 16 grams $30 per gram. Over 16 grams and the really really large nuggets 1 ounce or more well these are extremely rare and it's sort of a "what ever the traffic will bear" type of situation. REAL Gold nuggets are like diamonds, the bigger they are the more rare they are. Now granted, these prices can fluctuate, depending upon the aesthetic appeal of the nugget. Some are very pretty, others are as ugly as a baby vulture. A 1 gram ugly may go for $15 a gram, the 1 gram jewelry grade nugget may go for as much as $25 per gram. And let's not forget, everyone has different tastes. Some folks like the smooth river worn looking nuggets, others like nuggets that are more rough and jagged, still other folks like nuggets with quartz or ironstone in them.

Thanks GoldNugget
That answered alot of great questions.
I have often wondered at the worth of the veined quartz specimens,
in the eye & pocket of that nitch of the gold buying market.

I hope you soon pull a nugget the size of a glaicier from your local placier.

aloha

Yes good article, I've bought gold nuggets on E-Bay with generally good results, I do know something about them and managed to go right on past the folks selling Grains of gold, it's defiantly a buyer beware market there, also something the article did not mention are the folks selling "paydirt" this is dirt from mining sites that you pan. These can be fun, I've purchased some to teach my kids about where gold comes from and just how hard it is to find, once again I had some good results getting my moneys worth out of them.
here are some tips:
1. ALWAYS check out the sellers feedback! If they have any negative feedback you should be very cautious, if they have more than 5 negatives don't even think about using them, read the feedback folks leave, many will just leave a so-so feedback not really wanting admit they bought something they didn't understand so a positive feedback is not always what they seem.

2. If it seems to good to be true it probably is! always read every word on the page, you would be surprised what you can find out in the small print!

3. Look at what else the seller is selling, if they deal with a lot of gold this is a good thing! If they are selling one nugget and everything else is car parts you may want to look elsewhere.

4. always use PayPal, I really don't like PP as a whole however if the seller misrepresents a item you at least have some one to complain to and have a very good chance of getting your money back.

5. If you have a question contact the seller! A good seller will welcome your questions, and respond fairly quickly (give them a day or so people do have lives) if they don't respond or respond rudely don't buy from them! You don't want to deal with these folks in the event of a problem!

6. ALWAYS check the shipping charges BEFORE bidding! You have know idea how many actions are real cheap (.99) and than carry a $20 shipping charge for a one gram item, don't deal with folks who do this!

7. Decide what your willing to pay for a item before you bid, use the feature that allows you to put in your highest bid right away and E-Bay will automatically start with the lowest bid for you and enter a higher one as necessary to your highest bid limit, do not get sucked up in a bidding war, set it and forget it, otherwise you could easily end up paying much more that you wanted to!

Most of these ideas work well with anything you are buying on E-Bay, it's simply a case of Buyer Beware, I sell and buy a lot on E-bay and it can be a wonderful way to get and get rid of anything but please use your head!
